Workshop in Bergen 25th - 26th June 2002

Workshop summary

The 16th International Workshop of the FRISP community, now meaning Forum for Research into Ice Shelf Processes, will be held on 25th - 26th June 2002 at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Bergen, Norway.

Like in previous years the topics of the Workshop are concerned with all work relating to ice shelves (including ice rises). The main points are as follows:

mass balance and dynamics of ice shelves
mass transport across the grounding line
ocean circulation in front and underneath of ice shelves
meteorological processes relevant in the ice shelves area,
climatic information from ice cores in this area

The principal focus is on the Weddell Sea sector of Antarctica.

The programme includes the presentation of new results and discussions about planned field activities in the Antarctic.

FRISP Report No 14 contains the papers based on talks given at the meeting.

The workshop will be held in the auditorium in the east wing (to the right in the above image), and the 3 different projectors for overheads, PC, and slides will be available, as well as a PC.

The trip to Bergen should be fairly short as there are direct connections with Gatwick (www.braathens.no), Amsterdam (www.klm.com), Copenhagen and Oslo (www.scandinavian.net). The trip from the airport takes about 25 minutes, get off at the stop next to the Radisson SAS Hotel Norge.

As hotels were rather full in mid April already, local accommodation is organised in
3 centrally located hotels/guesthouses, all marked on the map.
